This week on the blog we are doing a staff spotlight. We hope to be able to feature one of our team members on occasion to allow you to get to know our staff a little better! Today, I sat down with Sherry Auten, Skylark Nurse Manager to learn a little more about her role.
Name: Sherry Auten
Position: Nurse Manager
Credentials: RN, BSN, Special Training in Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound, SRA Specialist
Sherry has served in the nursing profession for 37 years. She graduated from Armstrong University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. During her career she has worked in Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Practice, Surgery, Urgent Care, and field nursing. In addition, she has traveled several times on medical mission trips to developing countries, using her combined professional skills and personal interest in the effective delivery of health care. In addition to providing the medical services for our clients primarily in our Brunswick office, Sherry manages the medical staff in our three locations and the mobile unit. Sherry’s main focus is the quality of medical care provided by Skylark. She has been a part of the Skylark team since 2015.
Sherry states her favorite thing about nursing is the ability to help people. She has a very caring heart, and so the opportunity to take care of those around her is one thing that she particularly appreciates about the nursing profession. Sherry believes that it is important to instill a sense of value in others. She tells every person she meets with that they are valuable. Sherry says, “Your life has value, and you deserve the very best for yourself. You are worth more than what you are settling for.” As a nurse, Sherry obviously is concerned about a client’s physical health, but she knows that emotional and mental health are equally important.
When asked about the most impactful part of her role at Skylark, Sherry believes it is the process of helping clients walk through the most difficult decision they may ever make. She loves that she gets to be with them on this journey, and that she has the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life through her work.
